It’s Not Easy Being Pentametron

Being a successful Twitter bot can be a stressful experience. Step into the shoes of Pentametron, the internet’s premier rhyming iambic pentameter automaton, as he prepares for a typical day at the office.

It’s Not Easy Being Pentametron is a short free game developed on evenings and weekends over the course of two weeks in July 2019. It was created as part of Wizard Jam, an annual game jam hosted by the Idle Thumbs community. In the game, you are tasked with performing the duties of Pentametron, the popular Twitter bot that pairs up iambic pentameter rhyming couplets from Twitter users’ tweets. All aspects of the game development were performed by myself, barring the use of sound effects sourced from Freesound.org.

This was my first attempt at developing a video game by myself, and was built in Unity mostly because I already had it installed for work on Beacon. Considering the short time frame and my relative inexperience, I was very happy with the result. You can download the game for free on Itch.io, or play it in a browser here.

“A maddening empathy experience.”
